Crowley's Ridge State Park

We recently took a spontaneous trip to Arkansas to meet up with our friends the Hodges from St. Louis. Arkansas was chosen as it was approximately half-way for all of us.

Kathleen and Wendy went to college together. We last saw Kathleen and Jon at their wedding a few years ago. They now have a two year old girl Janet who is just a couple weeks younger than our Grace.

After a lot of searching Kathleen managed to scope out a place that was cheap but had enough amenities to handle the needs of 4 adults and 3 kids. We stayed at a state park which was the site of the home of one of the first pioneers of Arkansas, or something like that. Chasing kids around is not always conducive to history lessons so that is about as much as I remember. Google Crowley's Ridge if you want to know more. Anyway, there was plenty for everyone to do and it was a great way to get away and to reconnect with some friends.

This was the cabin we rented. I did not take any pictures of the inside, but it was modern (built in the last 10 years) and had a full kitchen.

The park had several lakes and springs on site.

The CCC built many of the structures in the park during the 1930's.

The park had an awesome playground which the kids really enjoyed.

Here's Jason going for a bounce...

Grace enjoyed the slide...

And Janet was cool just to hang out...

The park had swimming ponds for both kids and adults. Unfortunately, the slide for the adult pond was chained and barred on all sides.

Grace likes to jump in both feet forward...

After a lot of playing at the playground it was good to cool off in the pond...

I even managed to get in with the kids. Grace and Jason loved jumping off the diving board in the deep end.

It really was a great trip. Grace enjoyed having a buddy the same age as her.

Jason may be saying to us in this group shot, "Next year you get to take three of us on trips..."

The weekend went far too quickly and we all had to get back to real life. If you ever find yourself with a burning itch to stay in Arkansas, Crowley's Ridge State Park gets our approval.
