This next adoption has a strong chance of finishing this year in less than nine months of time! Just to get everyone up to speed here is a chronology of the events that have led to this week's impending trip to Russia. You will see there has been very little idle time for us the last few months!
- March 2007 -- We decide to go for it despite some uncertainty that we could return to Russia due to no agencies at that time were accredited to work in Russia.
- April 2007 -- The initial applications are filed with our home study and placement agencies. We apply with the same agencies that completed Jason Alexei's adoption (Villa Hope and Catholic Social Services).
- May 2007 -- Our social worker visits and conducts the interview for our home study. This was when Jason Alexei made his infamous unlocking of the front door deadbolt and subsequent escape while the interview was being conducted.
- July 4, 2007 -- In a big surprise on Independence Day, Catholic Social Services was one of the first six American adoption agencies to be reaccredited by the Russian Ministry of Education! There are still only 13 American agencies working in Russia currently. This is down from a peak of over 30! This totally kicked the door wide open to completing the adoption in 2007.
- August 2007 -- We were fingerprinted in Birmingham for our investigation and approval by the USCIS to bring a child of foreign birth into the United States. Mr. Dorsey, my fingerprint technician, once again remarks that I must type a lot at my job. He has noticed this all three times I have been there to be fingerprinted.
- August 2007 -- Our dossier was sent to Russia. The baton had been passed from the Americans to the Russians.
- September 2007 -- Patiently wait for a referral, play the "which region are we going game" with Moscow, Tula, and Kemerovo.
- October 12, 2007 -- Got "the call" that the Ministry of Education in Moscow was inviting us to receive a referral that met our requirements (girl under 18 months).
