Pumpkin Patch

The last two years we have taken Jason for a tractor ride at a local farm to pick a Halloween pumpkin. This past weekend we continued the tradition with Grace and Jason, but in a different location. We were in Knoxville visiting with Wendy's parents and decided to try one of the farms in their area. Guess what? They are a lot like the ones in Alabama!

Here's the two kids sticking their heads in the thing you stick your head in before you get your picture taken...

In case you don't know the drill, local farms invite you to visit their fields to pick a pumpkin. This was not something we did growing up, so seriously, I didn't know about this until just a few years ago. Anyway, the kids enjoy the ride in the tractor to the pumpkin patch, they get to see where pumpkins really come from, and the adults get a big pumpkin cheaper than at the grocery store. Everybody wins. This particular patch also had a corn maze and a rock wall.

Here's the big tractor that dropped us off on the way to the pumpkin patch. Jason really liked the tractor.

After a little bit of work, Jason found his perfect pumpkin.

Grace's first choice was a little too big...She eventually got one that was more her size.

There are also lots of places for the kids to pose to have their pictures taken in front of pumpkins, corn, and/or hey. Here's Grace posing for us...

We are now officially ready for Halloween with an abundance of pumpkins. Jason and Grace are ready with their costumes as well. Jason will be a fireman. Grace will wear her traditional Russian dress and will be a Russian princess.

Both of Grace's names have strong princess ties so it fits I guess. Princess Anastasia was rumored to have survived the Bolshevik Revolution and was long considered the lost aire to the Romanov line. That rumor/myth was recently debunked. Then there was American actress Grace Kelly who married into royalty and became known as Princess Grace of Monaco. So there you have it. My daughter has two princess names and you have learned more about Russian/American princesses than you probably ever cared to know.
