Back on Topic

The activity on the site spiked upward this week when Chucky and Mr. T came on the scene. Go figure.

We do have a little adoption news. Yesterday our updated paperwork was couriered to Russia by a couple travelling to see their child. The paperwork will be registered with the Ministry of Education in the Moscow Region (Russian: Московская область) . That doesn't mean the orphanage is within the Moscow city limits, but it does mean we won't be going to Siberia.

With each region you will learn there are good and bad points. The good thing about the Moscow Region is that we'll only have to fly to Moscow. From there we will be driven to our final destination (no red-eyes to Siberia). From a selfish, touristy perspective, more time in Moscow rocks! We'll possibly have more time to take in the Russian capital city. More time visiting Comrades Lenin, Stalin, and Gagarin...

One potential drawback is that we've heard processing of Russian passports for the children takes longer in the Moscow Region which could make trip #2 longer. Big deal. We'll deal with that later, just get us on trip #1.

Astute observers will note that I changed some of the links about a week ago in expectation of being registered in the Moscow region. Check 'em out if you care. My favorites are the weather forecasts and the live web cameras.

The flags of the Russian regions are interesting. Ivanovo, the region where our paperwork was registered with the old placement agency, had depictions of chics spinning thread and such. The area was known for that so that made sense. Now, the Moscow flags are cool. No dainty thread spinning at all. Check this one out. It is the flag of Moscow Oblast (Russian: Московская область):

Red flags with dudes on horses slaying dragons. There ya' go! I don't know the Russian cultural significance of that...Maybe the founder of Moscow had a rep' for dragon slaying.

The flag of the City of Moscow looks similar, just our dragon slayer takes up the whole thing...

What a diverse blog. You get Mr. T's insights on mailbox whackin' and a lesson on Russian dragon slaying all in the same week...
